Spritz has conquered Italy in recent years, but its popularity doesn’t stop there.
The Italian aperitif is increasingly gaining recognition abroad, becoming a favorite drink thanks to its simplicity and versatility. Spritz appeals to everyone and is very easy to make: 1 part soda, 2 parts Aperol (or Campari, etc.), 3 parts Prosecco.
Wait a moment – which Prosecco? What’s the best Prosecco for a perfect Spritz?
The Best Prosecco for a Perfect Spritz
It all starts with choosing the right ingredients, and since Prosecco is the main ingredient, it plays the most important role in the drink. So, which Prosecco should you choose for your Spritz? There isn’t a single answer, as it depends on personal taste. However, there are a few tips and tricks to help you make the best version of this classic cocktail.
Brut is Better
If you can choose which Prosecco to use, go for a dry style, preferably Brut. The characteristics of a Brut complement the Spritz well: the wine is fruity and dry, with fresh notes of green apple. A higher sugar content may be too sweet for some palates. Alternatively, an Extra Dry works well too. We recommend avoiding Dry, which with its >17 g/L of sugar can be too sweet and is better enjoyed on its own.

DOC or DOCG?
Here, too, if you can choose a DOCG, ideally 100% Glera, your Spritz will be rich in aromas and flavors. We’re not suggesting using a Cartizze or Nebbia for your Spritz – that would be a waste – but a Valdobbiadene Superiore Brut will give you a perfect result. Alternatively, a high-quality Prosecco DOC, full of aromas and fragrances, can also elevate your Spritz.
Our Favorites for a Perfect Spritz
- Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut – Vedova Wine Art
This wine is the optimal choice for those who love a dry, fresh Spritz, full of aromas and fragrances.
- Prosecco DOC Extra Dry – Vedova Wine Art
A more affordable alternative (under €10), slightly sweeter but still able to give your Spritz intense fruity notes of Golden apple, peach, and apricot.
How to Prepare a Spritz
Making a Spritz at home is very simple.
Ingredients:
- Ice cubes
- 1 or 2 slices of orange
- 3 parts Prosecco
- 2 parts Aperol (or Campari, or Select)
- 1 part seltzer, soda, or sparkling water
Tip: “Part” refers to the ratio of ingredients in the cocktail. Usually, one part equals about 30 ml. If you use two parts Aperol (60 ml), add three parts Prosecco (90 ml).
Preparation:
Use a fairly wide glass, ideally a wine glass. Add ice cubes, then pour in the Prosecco. Next, add the Aperol and top with seltzer (or soda/sparkling water). Stir with a spoon, garnish with an orange slice, and voilà – your Spritz is ready.
Tip: Add the ingredients in the order listed. Aperol is heavier than Prosecco, so if you mix immediately, it may settle at the bottom and not blend properly, changing the final result.
History of the Spritz
The Spritz originated in Veneto in the 19th century, when Austrian soldiers discovered Veneto wines. To make them easier to drink, they diluted them with sparkling water. This led to the term “Spritzen” (to spray), hence “Spritz.”
The cocktail as we know it today took shape around 1920–1930, still in Veneto, during the launch of Aperol.
